Interview App Founder – Stephen Allen
Name of Founder: Stephen Allen
Name of Company: PhotoShoot
Name of App: PhotoShoot
App Category: Social Media
Free or Paid App: Free with In-App purchases
Is the App created for a certain country/area or worldwide: It’s created for the UK, USA, Switzerland, Germany, France, and The Netherlands.
As Founder of this fantastic App, what was your motivation in creating it?
SA: “As a photographer myself I was always on the lookout for people to collaborate and create with. I was visiting my wife in Boston, MA. last year and I wanted to shoot some portraits on a mutual benefit basis while I had some free time. I found it very time consuming to organise these shoots and I was never sure if the person I was meeting could be trusted. There had to be a better way, and now there is.”
Why should App Users download this App?
SA: “This App makes it easy to find Models, Photographers, and Makeup Artists (Creatives) directly on their Smartphone. It’s free, simple to use, and helps to connect and create in a safe and efficient way.”
What are the advantages compared to other similar App’s?
SA: “The biggest advantage is that there is a rating system so that you know if another user is trustworthy or not. We filter our user-base and only allow people that are genuine to stay online. The second advantage is that it’s designed for professionals and aspiring creatives alike. There is an option to work for mutual benefit (tfp) for both parties, but also a paid option.”
Can you tell us something about the process, challenges, hurdles and time spent from the moment you started (The Idea) up until the moment you launched the App?
SA: “It started as an idea and within days I’d decided that it was worth following through. The first challenge was putting my idea to paper, and finding someone who was willing to help code it. Once these hurdles had been met, the biggest challenge has been in getting the word out there about the app. We aren’t a big company with a marketing budget so it’s been interesting to say the least.”
Once you launched the App, what did you do to promote it to your target audience (user group)?
SA: “So far, I’ve been using Instagram and word of mouth, which seems to be working to a certain extent. It has, however, come to the time where we need to grow a little more quickly and to reach a critical mass.”
Do you think Applepies (as a worldwide rating and reviewing Online App Magazine) can play a certain role in this?
SA: “It’s difficult to say at this stage because I can’t find any reviews, or see what sort of traffic your website has, but I hope so. You definitely have a great idea here!”
You as a visionary person, what is your view on the new technologies of the digital smartphone (App) world. Do you think that within 1 to 5 years App’s will be indispensable?
SA: “Definitely, I honestly think we are already there, especially amongst the younger generation.”
Are you currently (still) looking for investments or funds to finalise or optimize your App?
SA: “We aren’t currently looking for investments because we managed to get some funding recently. We are, however, at the point where we plan to implement the next steps to make the App financially viable and to take it to the next level.”
Are you familiar with the definition monetization (how to earn money with your App)? Are you open to advertisement companies advertising through your App?
SA: “As mentioned above, we are at the point where we are deciding on the next steps to monetize the App. We are definitely open to considering advertising on the app, but we are considering some other options also.”
What is the business model of the App (how does the App earn money?) Think of advertisements, premium subscriptions in the App etc?
SA: “At the moment the App is completely free, which is important at an early stage to build a solid user-base. We are looking into premium subscriptions, In-App transactions, and possibly even advertising.”
Last but not least is there anything you want to recommend other App Founders/Creators?
SA: “Start with a solid team and get some investment early. It will be more work than you anticipate. If you and your team are passionate about producing something special, and not just making money, then it will be a success.”
