As Founder of this fantastic App, what was your motivation to create such an App?
MB: “The current dating model is broken, superficial swipe culture has produced what some call “The dating appocolypse” . But at the same time dating Apps have the power to bring people together, they spawn marriages and new families, they change lives in a way no other App can. With CLiKD I wanted to offer a product that was still fun, light weight and gamified to use BUT which matched people on the same wavelength connecting over the shared values, goals, interests and tastes that were important to them.”

Why should Users download this App?
MD: “If they are looking to meet people on their wavelength and are fed up with wasting time on swipes that never go anywhere or misleading psuedo scientifc websites then CLiKD offers a fresh and fun alternative that puts personality back into dating.”

What are the advantages compared to other similar Apps?
MD: “CLiKD allows you to choose what the important factors are for you in a relationship and matches you on those criteria not just looks like shallow swipe Apps. It also does this in a quick and fun way unlike traditional dating websites that ask you 150 of THEIR questions for an hour and a half before you can even get started!”

Can you tell something about the process, challenges, hurdles and time spent from the moment you start (The Idea) till the moment you launched the App at the AppStore / GooglePlay?
MD: “As a non-tech founder the journey to getting the App in the Apple store was quite a tough one! There was the idea stage then translating that into wireframing and then pushing on to do even more. A lot to get our heads around. In terms of the AppStore and GooglePlay store. Google was a doddle in comparison to Apple which led to about dozen rejections before we made it in.I think the hardest part in it all, is that as a first time App builder quite often I would allow others to dictate the direction of the App, It has taken me a while to get to a point that I know I have great instincts on development and often to follow my own path is the best way.”

Once you launched the App in the Appstore / GooglePlay, what did you do to promote this App to your target audience (user group)?Do you think Applepies (as worldwide rating and reviewing Online App Magazine) can have a certain role in this?
MD: “We ran Google UAC campaigns, FB ads, did flyering and street promo campaigns, optimised our website, collaborated with other brands, ran competitions, hosted events and experiences, sent press releases, contacted journalists, bloggers and influencers (tech and lifestyle/dating) as well as attended conferences and pitch events!

As an online App review magazine Applepies would be an invaluable source of trusted impartial reviews. The App stores are easily spammed with large volumes of fake reviews to try and game the system but quality publications which honour journalistic integrity are quite literally the kind of publicity that money can’t buy!”

You as a visionary person, what is your view on the new technologies of the digital smartphone (App) world. Do you think that within 1 to 5 years Apps will be indispensable?
MD: “Apps will replace almost everything we currently carry, cash & credit/debit cards, drivers licence/passport/ID, keys, pens, camera, business cards, etc. are all going the way of the walkman and the pocket diary! The need for face to face human interaction will be minimal with building and vehicle access all automated, high street shoping and food service automated….and where last leg elements like product delivery are required they can be manged remotely, doors unlocked and relocked viewed on CCTV in real time.”

Are you currently (still) looking for investments or funds to finalise or optimize your App?
MD: “Yes, we have about 1/4 of our round pledged and a number of interested parties.”

What is the business model of the App (how does the App earns money?) Think of advertisements, premium subscribtions in the App etc?
MD: “Freemium model and an innovative and highly targetted product placement/native advertising offering.”

Last but not least is there anything you want to recommend other creators/founders?
MD: “Firstly, have a clear vision and believe in yourself, but constantly be testing that proposition. And whilst tough and not always great to hear you should be trying to get as much feedback as possible all the time, in that way you will always be moving forward and as long as you are making good progress you can’t fail!

I would also recommend getting in a group with some good people who can give you some advice and support you, there are a whole bunch of different networks which can help. I am part of the Founders Network which has been invaluable in helping me get introductions and great advice.”
