CallApp combines your phone’s dialer and local search platform to give you access to people and places all in one convenient place – your dialer!
As Founder of this fantastic App, what was your motivation to create such an App?
AO: “One day our Founder & CEO, Amit On, was in a very important meeting and his mobile phone rang. Sounds fairly normal right? Well the number was unknown, and Amit had to decide on the spot if it was important enough to answer. Amit answered the call, only to find out it was a spam call… That was the moment when Amit decided that it makes no sense not having information about the person calling you, when it’s already publicly available. Think about this scenario… Someone knocks on your door at home and puts their hand on the peep-hole. It might be a nice girl-scout selling cookies, but on the other part of the spectrum it could be a burglar. Would you open the door? Of Course not. So why is it the 21st century and we are not able to know who’s the caller behind each phone call? After this pivotal moment, Amit used smart data to create proprietary algorithms which are now the backbone of CallApp.”

CallApp is currently the largest Caller ID service in the market with over 3 billion mobile and business numbers.”
What are the advantages compared to other similar App’s?
AO:“CallApp is not just a Caller ID app… we’re a complete call management solution. There is no other app or platform on the market that provides the same usability and information that we provide to our users. CallApp can truly replace your phone’s native dialer and contact book. The value that CallApp brings to the user alone separates itself from its industry contemporaries. We like to concentrate on the social world. Our users having the best experience possible is our main focus. So many people today use social media, so incorporating this into our Caller ID was a must. Incorporating social media allows CallApp to give our users a much more personalized experience. Our team doesn’t stop here, we’re always looking and testing for new ways to increase the performance and user experience of CallApp. Every feature is fully tested and made sure to be of highest quality. Anything less than perfect for our users is not ok for us. We never release a new feature just so we can put it in our app description.”
Can you tell something about the process, challenges, hurdles and time spent from the moment you start (The Idea) till the moment you launched the App at the AppStore / GooglePlay?
AO: “This all started towards the end of 2011. I would say the biggest challenge we had when we created the idea, was that there was just too much data available. This sounds like a good problem to have, but it actually made things very difficult. We had to put on our thinking caps and craft precise algorithms that would create accurate identities of the callers. Once we decided which data we wanted to be displayed in our app, then we created the proprietary alogirthms which make CallApp what it is today. It took around a year from when the idea was formed until we had an app available to the public.”
Once you launched the App in the Appstore / GooglePlay, what did you do to promote this App to your target audience (user group)? Do you think Applepies (as worldwide rating and reviewing Online App Magazine) can have a certain role in this?
AO: “So CallApp is a little bit different than most. We don’t necessarily have a target audience since our app can be used by the mass consumer population. Now of course we do have a much narrower audience we target, but I’ll let you know what we did when we initially started. It was purely ASO and the K-Factor. We created a strong English Play Store page that was well A/B tested and then we started to localize globally. Our ASO took off along with our K-Factor. For those that don’t know, in simple terms the K-Factor is going viral through users inviting their friends.
You as a visionairy person, what is your view on the new technologies of the digital smartphone (App) world. Do you think that within 1 to 5 years App’s will be indispensable?
AO: : “Yes, 100%. However, I don’t think everything will be run by an app. All of these examples you gave currently have apps out there so in the next 1-5 years I would assume they will continue to grow. The amount of people around the world with smart phones are going to continue to grow. People now a days just want to make their lives easier. And what’s more easy than controlling your home or any of your daily activities through a smartphone? This is why I believe in 1 to 5 years App’s will be indispensable.”
Are you currently (still) looking for investments or funds to finalise or optimize your App?
AO: “No we are currently content with the amount of investments we received many years ago.”
Are you familiar with the definition Monetization (how to earn money with your App)? Are you open for Ad companies sending advertisements through your App?
AO: “Yes, of course. It’s very tough to monetize free apps in today’s world. We think we are one of the few apps that were actually able to crack this. We are always reiterating our business model in order to maximize monetization without hurting the User Experience. We’re always trying different models. If the channels work we keep them, if not we move onto the next one. This is something we are already doing.”
Wat is the business model of the App (how does the App earns money?) Think of advertisements, premium subscriptions in the App etc?
AO:““Currently we are running a split between Advertisements and subscriptions. I don’t want to go into much detail about the split but it’s more IAA heavy.”
Last but not least is there anything you want to recommend other App Founders/Creators?
AO: : “Yes, in this industry people need to realize that good ideas don’t necessarily equal successful ideas. Everything we do here is tracked thanks to advanced analytics programs. This has helped us realize that not every idea we have will perform well. When the idea isn’t performing, we accept this and try to figure out how to improve it. When the idea is performing, we don’t just let it sit idle, we develop ways to make it even stronger. We don’t have nearly 40 Million Users just by a fluke, everything we do here is deeply planned and carefully implemented.”
