House expenses making ends meet! Register the house expenses (food, drinks, detergents, toilet paper…) and the app will automatically calculate how much your roommates owe you and how much you owe them.

Chores – organize the turns in an easy and fast way!
RoomMate handles your chore wheel in the house, telling you when it’s your turn and what you have to do. The calendar updates automatically and is totally customized!

To-do list – create and complete your lists! Mark everything you need or that you have to do in shared lists. Your roommates can check them anytime. You won’t forget anything anymore!

Bills – receive notifications on time every month!
With RoomMate you can enter bills in your archive and organize them in categories. You will be notified in advance every time a bill is about to expire!

Cleaning- Your house needs deep cleaning? RoomMate hires local experts for you. Before your guests arrive, don’t be unprepared! After a great party, get help tidying up the mess!
Groceries- Do you want to save time?

Interview

As Founder of this fantastic App, what was your motivation to create such an App?
MR: “RoomMate born from founders’ personal pain experience of sharing a flat with annoying roommates. We decided to create a mobile App intended to simplify living together to people sharing an apartment, or to act as a virtual concierge, in order to get a better living for roommates all over the world!”


Why should Users download this App?

MR: “RoomMate is a FREE mobile App intended to simplify daily cohabitation among flat mates.”

With RoomMate people can:
– Split Expenses: track apartments’ debts and credits situation in real time in order to avoid pending payments
– Manage Bills: manage costs and consumptions of utilities and split payments with your roommates
– Coordinate for Chores & To-do’s: manage apartment’s daily life by organizing housework’s duties, shifts and errands
– Get compelling House Services (cleanings, food & drink delivery): get the best apartment-related services for you! (only available in Italy as of today)”


What are the advantages compared to other similar Apps?

MR: “RoomMate aggregates any relevant tool intended to manage the daily apartment life in a unique FREE mobile application.
Just forget arguments and clashes with your flat mates on who had to clean the kitchen, who had to take out the trash or who had to owe money to whom!

Can you tell something about the process, challenges, hurdles and time spent from the moment you start (The Idea) till the moment you launched the App at the AppStore / GooglePlay?

MR: “The App is proudly 100% built internally by Mirko and Matteo, tow brilliant developers respectively working on iOS and Android platforms. Being fully digital and thanks to the founding developers, RoomMate did not need any funding in its very early stages. The founding team rather preferred to spend the little money they had to look for market validation.
Concerning the launch, we followed a pretty straightforward onboarding process on both stores (App Store & Google Play). Once you pay the mandatory fee and upload the App, you only have to promote your App.”


Once you launched the App in the Appstore / GooglePlay, what did you do to promote this App to your target audience (user group)?

MR: “With the little money we had, we did extensive flyering (delivered by founders themselves) in order to stay as close as possible to our users and to keep costs low. This initiative allowed us to get truly in touch with our potential user persona and paved the way for initial product iterations which were very much appreciated by early adopters.”


Do you think Applepies (as worldwide rating and reviewing Online App Magazine) can have a certain role in this?

MR: “Applepies, with its proved worldwide network, can act as a compelling reviewing tool in order for RoomMate to get market validation abroad. We recently translated the App in the English language in order to test foreign markets; Applepies can truly speed up the Build-Measure-Learn process in understanding RoomMate’s value proposition declination in foreign markets.”


You as a visionary person, what is your view on the new technologies of the digital smartphone (App) world. Do you think that within 1 to 5 years Apps will be indispensable?

MR: “In my personal opinion, Apps (and in general the Digital Ecosystem) will furtherly expand in the next years in areas that today are still constrained by legislation or permissions. In particular, any sector involved with extensive and coercive regulation as well as industries where any sort of certification is needed will be thoroughly affected. Just as an example, Uber made possible for anyone to become a taxi driver.
Sectors mainly affected will be the ones where the demand is high and maybe growing while the offer is constrained by regulations.”


Are you currently (still) looking for investments or funds to finalize or optimize your App?

MR: “In this period, RoomMate is in its seed-funding stage. We are looking for investors believing in our value proposition in order to foster our growth.”


What is the business model of the App (how does the App earns money?) Think of advertisements, premium subscriptions in the App etc.?

MR: “RoomMate acts as a Lead Generator. We take royalties on House Services we sell via the App.”


Last but not least is there anything you want to recommend other creators/founders?

MR: “Go on with your idea or startup, regardless of what external people saying!”
