As developer of this fantastic App, what was your motivation to create such an App?
EM: “The idea behind Stocard is to create a mobile wallet. Get rid of all these plastic cards and digitalize them.”
Why should App Users download this App?
EM: “Everyone who thinks that he/she don’t want to have all these plastic cards in their wallet anymore should download Stocard. And next to that you can find offers from your favorite retailers.”
What are the advantages compared to other similar App’s?
EM: “The user experience of Stocard has no equal.”
Can you tell something about the process, challenges, hurdles and time spent from the moment you start (the idea) till the moment you launched the App at the AppStore / GooglePlay?
EM: “We had the idea to change the way the wallet worked, because we thought the experience of having a fat and disorderly wallet wasn’t great and the smartphone could be a catalyst to make the experience a lot better.
Our small team of 3 back then relatively quickly built the first prototype and then we started testing it with friends and family and worked towards pushing it into the App Store and Google Play store. The first testing of Apple took around 2 weeks until we were approved for the App Store, but except for that minor delay, we found the experience of creating and distributing the app very simple and developer friendly.”
Once you launched the App in the Appstore / GooglePlay, what did you do to promote this App to your target audience (usergroup)? Do you think Applepies can have a certain role in this?
EM: “We are very lucky to have most of our new downloads organic. People are enthusiastic and tell each other about it. In addition to that we are top ranked in the App stores and we have a lot of retail-employees promoting Stocard. And yes, I think Applepies can mean something for us. They can help us in promoting their App throughout their global App Ecosystem creating the best worldwide visibility.”
You as a visionary person, what is your view on the new technologies of the digital smartphone (App) world. Do you think that within 1 to 5 years App’s will be indispensable?
EM: “There’s an interesting point of view by some people who thinks Apps will disappear within some years. I think within the next 1 to 5 years apps will indeed replace manual activities. For payment I am sure that this will be the new big platform for smartphones. We changed the way we make pictures, consume music and even within transport (Uber) the smartphone changed a lot. Mobile payments will be big, we think most physical wallets will be made obsolete by 2020.”
Are you currently (still) looking for investments or funds to finalize or optimize your App?
EM: “We recently raised 20 mio AUD (Australian dollars) from Macquarie Capital with follow-on financing from original investors Shortcut, Alstin, Rocketship, HTGF and Engelhorn.”
Are you familiar with the definition Monetization (how to earn money with your App)? Are you open for ad companies sending advertisements through your App?
EM: “We have our own business model with mainly retailers.”
Wat is the business model of the App (how does your App earns money?) Think of advertisements, premium subscriptions in the App etc.?
EM: “We have a business model with retailers where we create more traffic and sales for those retailers, which we do very good by the way.”
Last but not least is there anything you want to recommend other App Founders/Creators?
EM: “Just do it! There are a lot of great ideas out there, unfortunately a lot of great ideas never make it to market. So just working on the idea and having a clear goal of getting it into market is the most important first step.”
