As Founder of this fantastic App, what was your motivation to create such an App?
“The idea behind MUDDY was to help emerging musicians to be discovered by new fans at gigs and live shows. To help them connect and engage with these fans and generate new revenue streams. I am a huge music fan and had also promoted some gigs in Ireland and understood the challenges faced by emerging artists which lead to the idea behind MUDDY.”
Why should Users download this App?
“This app is targeted currently at live music fans and festival goers in Ireland and the U.K. It will allow them to discover new musicians at festivals in Ireland and the U.K this year.”
What are the advantages compared to other similar App’s
“MUDDY is a one stop shop for all the information for this summer’s Irish music festivals and live gigs. By using our discovery feature you can find out more about the artists you come across at festivals and live gigs. If you’re a live music fan its a must have.”
Can you tell something about the process, challenges, hurdles and time spent from the moment you start (The Idea) till the moment you launched the App at the AppStore / GooglePlay?
“The process of design and functions of the app has come a long way. When I look at the original wireframes I drew on an A4pad 2 years ago from what I had in my head to what we have now its crazy. It’s taken us a couple of go’s to get it right but were happy with it now. The main hurdles would have to be getting everything done on time and with a limited budget for our full launch in June 2016. We have bootstrapped all the way and had deadlines as we had clients waiting on us to deliver which was challenging but also extremely satisfying to see the positive reaction to the app when we launched.”
Once you launched the App in the Appstore / GooglePlay, what did you do to promote this App to your target audience (user group)?
“We used our festival partner Body&Soul festival here in Ireland to promote the app for us. By working as their official app partner we used their media channels and reach to drive awareness and use of the app. We had 3500 downloads in the week before the festival and this has been our marketing strategy since with our other clients. It helps drive awareness for us as we currently have limited marketing budget.”
Do you think Applepies (as worldwide rating and reviewing Online App Magazine) can have a certain role in this?
“Absolutely. The AppStore and GooglePlay store are such minefields that Applepies will help people get apps that are more relevant to them.”
You as a visionair, what is your view on the new technologies of the digital smartphone (App) world. Do you think that within 1 to 5 years App’s will be indispensable?
“I think a lot of that is already happening and I’m all for it. Convenience is king as we are all so busy these days so anything that helps that is welcomed by me. However, it’s also a double-edged sword that we can all spend too much of our free time looking at our smartphones. I’m excited by things like VR and AR and what they can do but for a music app like us, you won’t be able to replace the experience of being at the gig with any technology.”
Are you currently (still) looking for investments or funds to finalize or optimize your App?
“Yes, we are currently trying to raise funds for some tech updates and to move into new markets. We are also interested in partnerships with like-minded companies from the music tech industry.”
Last but not least is there anything you want to recommend other creators/founders?
“My top 3 would be:
- Team – You have to have a co-founder you can work well with. I am extremely lucky to have Rob as a co-founder and we would not be where we are today without his input.
- Be open to feedback – Listen and accept external feedback/criticism/praise but ultimately trust your vision and gut on the direction you want to go.
- Celebrate the wins- You have to because there is always another hurdle around the corner so enjoy the success while you can and get ready to go again.”
